Hasani’s daughter has committed suicide

“Hamideh Hasani” daughter of religious clerk “Gholamreza Hasani:” presiding over the Friday Prayer in Orumiyeh, Iran, had died recently. It has been reported that she (who was married and had a child) died due to severe complications of burns from a fire in a private garden.

In aftermath of this incident, Hasani approached the television stations of west Azarbayejan province and in an interview said: “because suicide is forbidden in Islam he will not be attending any memorial services arranged for her daughter.” Authorities will be looking into the matter.

bargeboo: above is a direct translation of a recent news item in iran-based news website: “peyke iran”. hasani is somewhat a controversial character. he is well known for his politically incorrect and sometimes blatantly outrageous comments on various issues from 9/11 and world trade center to everyday living.

a lot can be said about a country that has persons like him in position of power. his power might not be so much political as it is spiritual because he delivers sermons on mass friday prayers to old and young who flock to his speeches every week. if he only affects one mind …

many persons of authority who now run that country are just as sexist and close-minded and just as proud of their bigotry and extremist views.

at first, you might think this was a very stupid comment when the official cause of death has been declared as an accident and all seems at peace and then he comes along and actually blurts out the truth about a suicide!  but thinking about it a little more it also shows another fact just as shocking: for a religious fundamentalist, laws of god are far above the laws of humanity. love of a father for her daughter is overshadowed when it comes to rules that god has set forward for his creations to follow. we don’t get the concern about a daughter lost, about a grand child apparently left motherless, about the low she must have hit to decide she would take her life. hasani’s zealousness in rushing to declare nationally his devotion to islam overshadows all that.

i can’t help but recall the story of abraham and his sacrificial lamb; you know the one about him choosing to sacrifice his son to show his devotion to god almighty and how in his overwhelming wisdom (god that is) he sends him a lamb to slaughter instead. this is one of main pillars of islamic faith. a story that is retold again and again so that the moral of it does not escape any falsely devoted parent or any good moslem for that matter.

the day of that sacrifice is in fact one of major holidays in islamic calendar and in many islamic countries around the world. on that day many lambs are slaughtered and offered to god to signify this momentous occasion.

there is of course another angle to this little snippet of news and that is he has no reservations to actually admit the truth. law does not apply to him of course.

lets have a show of hands of those who believe “authorities who will be looking into the matter”?  laws are enforced selectively in iran. supposed adulterers are stoned to death and child abusers who force their daughters to marry at 9 are praised for being so very islamic.

this short news story speaks volumes of the kind of leaders iran has today. it also makes me wonder, if the highjackers of 9/11 felt justified in their slaughter of innocent people based on similar lessons they have been taught as devout moslems.  so they could show the depth of their devotion to their god.
