bargeboo: there are hundreds of injured and orphaned children, spread out all over the country, survivors of bam. now injured and often too shocked to even talk they are all alone in various hospitals. there has been a movement to "virtually adopt" these kids, by sending them cards or gifts. although the suggestion is mostly directed towards those who live in iran, you can do it as well.
email j. beygloo to get information on how to contact some of these children and to get names and addresses. for those of you who live in iran and would like to actually visit these kids, go to haleh's weblog and see the details you need to send to mr. beygloo in order to get directions.
for others who live outside of iran, either from iranian decent or other, i am not sure what a card can actually do for an orphaned child whose entire life has just been turned upside-down. but this is at least something we can do and won't even cost us all that much ... a card, a few minutes of our time to write something, a postage and an envelope, makes what ... like 3 dollars? you can write in farsi, english, spanish, russian, chinese, japanese or any other languages you like. this is one of the cases where the thought really counts a lot more than the actual gift.
who knows what kind of an effect your act of kindness can have on the life of a child? hope can do wonders. without hope, we have nothing.
